What Is The Pesticide Science Society of Japan?
The Pesticide Science Society of Japan was organized on October 14, 1975.
The society intends to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas not only on developing pesticides but also on contributing to environmental and life sciences. Sponsored scientific activities are its Annual Meeting, a Pesticide Science Symposium, and workshops and pesticide research where various aspects are considered. At the Annual Meeting where several hundred scientists gather, over hundred papers on such projects as structure-activity relationship, biochemical and toxicological aspects of insecticides, fungicides and herbicides, metabolism, residue analysis, formulation research, and environmental aspects of pesticides are presented. The Pesticide Science Symposium is an umbrella meeting cosponsored by the Pesticide Science Society of Japan, the Science Council of Japan's National Committee of Plant Protection, the Agricultural Chemical Society of Japan, Japanese Society for Phytoregulators, Japanese Society of Applied Entomology and Zoology, the Phytopathological Society of Japan and the Weed Science Society of Japan. Topics related to pesticides are discussed not only by pesticide scientists but also by entomologists, weed scientists, phytopathologists, soil scientists, natural product chemists and crop scientists. Workshops include subjects as diverse as pesticide fate in the soil, residue analysis, formulation and application, rational pesticide design, biotechnology related to pesticide science, bioassay methodology and a forum for young scientists.
Publication of the Journal of Pesticide Science is one of the important activities of the Society. It appears quarterly, in February, May, August and November, and includes scientific papers, reviews and commentaries, award lectures, and news of various meetings and Society activities.
Most of the papers in the Journal are written in English, and papers written in Japanese are also understandable to scientists not familiar in Japanese language because the synopsis, figures and tables are all presented in English.
The membership is international; Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, China, Egypt, Germany, Great Britain, India, Indonesia, Italy, Korea, the Netherlands, New Zealand, the Philippines, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand, and the United States. Disciplines such as nematology, plant pathology, chemistry, entomology, plant physiology, toxicology and pharmacology are represented.
You are cordially invited to become an active member of the Society. An application form for membership is accompanied. Libraries of universities, government institutes and private firms are welcome to subscribe to the Journal.
